FAQs

What is an “all-in-one” gas detection system?

An all-in-one fixed gas detection system is a complete, ready-to-install solution that combines all safety critical components into a single unit.

With SensAlarm Flex, that includes:

  • Gas detection (via intelligent sensors)
  • Audible and visual alarms (horn + LED strobes)
  • Output communications for shutdown/control (Programmable Relays, 4-20 mA, ModBus, etc.)
  • Local display and intuitive user interface
  • Hazardous area approvals

Instead of designing and assembling a system from multiple vendors, everything is pre-integrated, tested, and ready to deploy in one enclosure.

How is SensAlarm Flex different from traditional gas detection systems?

Traditional systems are typically built from separate components:

  • Controller
  • Power supply
  • Relays
  • Alarm devices
  • Sensors

SensAlarm Flex consolidates those into one platform, which:

  • Reduces panel design and field wiring
  • Eliminates cross-vendor integration issues
  • Speeds up installation and commissioning
  • Lowers overall installed cost

It also adds intelligence not found in basic systems, like:

  • Automatic sensor recognition and configuration
  • Sensor life tracking and predictive failure warnings

What gases can SensAlarm Flex detect?

SensAlarm Flex supports a wide range of gas types using Sensidyne Plus Series sensors, including:

  • Toxic gases (H₂S, CO, NH₃, Cl₂, etc.)
  • Oxygen (deficiency/enrichment)
  • Combustible gases (%LEL)

Supported sensor technologies include:

  • Electrochemical (toxics, oxygen)
  • Catalytic bead (combustibles)
  • Infrared (combustibles, CO₂)

Because the platform auto-configures, changing gas types does not require reprogramming of the system.

How does SensAlarm Flex work?

SensAlarm Flex continuously monitors ambient air using connected gas sensors and triggers alarms when gas concentrations exceed user-configured limits.

Typical operation:

  1. Sensors measure gas concentration
  2. System compares readings to alarm setpoints
  3. Alarms and strobes activate if setpoints are exceeded
  4. Outputs and relays trigger actions such as notification, shutdown, or ventilation

What makes SensAlarm Flex “flexible”?

SensAlarm Flex provides flexibility in three key areas:

  1. Sensor flexibility
    1. Multiple gas types and technologies
    2. Plug-and-play auto configuration
  2. Installation flexibility
    1. Local or remote mounting
    2. Indoor or outdoor applications
  3. Integration flexibility
    1. 4–20 mA output
    2. Modbus TCP / RS-485
    3. Configurable relay outputs
